Easy Talk is a Android app that uses voice recognition technology to transcribe a conversation into text which is then displayed on-screen. It is available in two versions; the Lite Version and the Pro Version. The Lite version is available free of charge and is ads free, but with restricted features. The Pro version costs US $4.39 and contains more features, including two way conversations between devices. No iPhone version is planned. The Easy Talk apps can be found on the Google Play store; search for "Easy Talk"

The pro version includes these features:
+ new feature: text phone (as a phone call but with the voice transcription)
+ connection using Wifi Direct in few seconds (no broadband box required)
+ keyboard input option
+ save or share your conversations as text
+ remove or change words
+ bluetooth connection with microphone devices

My initial assessment
This application offers the possibility for deaf and hard of hearing people to follow a conversation using speech-to-text transcription performed via voice recognition; which particular voice recognition engine used is not stated. Once launched, Easy Talk will convert speech-to-text on the screen of the user’s smartphone / tablet and the conversation will also display on other nearby devices that are also running the Easy Talk app. As best as I can judge the link between the devices is achieved via Wi-Fi Direct and provided the devices are nearby (say about 10m), connection is automatic.
It is said to have the following features:
  • Transcription of a conversation by subtitling through the microphone of the mobile device.
  • Colours to distinguish each participant.
  • Direct connection to Wifi in seconds and without requiring a Box.
  • Operation even offline, convenient during a conversation in a place without any network.
